Honours Golf Company Appoints Jim DeReuil, CGCS as Director of Agronomy

September 28, 2009 – Birmingham, AL – Honours Golf Company has announced that Jim DeReuil has been promoted to the position of director of agronomy and will be a part of the company’s corporate team.  DeReuil will be based at Craft Farms, a 36-hole golf facility in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

“Adding Jim DeReuil to our corporate team will establish an important link between our individual clubs, our clients and our corporate office,” said Bob Barrett, chief executive officer of Honours Golf.  “Jim has done an outstanding job for Honours Golf during the last ten years, and he brings valuable experience in construction, turf care, maturation and management experience to this new position.  He additionally possesses the necessary communication skills to work with other Honours team members and clients, as well as the various people associated with the construction process.”

As director of agronomy, DeReuil’s responsibilities will include directing the seasonal turf care and maintenance practices for all of Honours Golf’s facilities, ensuring that the courses meet the exacting standards of the company.  He will oversee each club’s superintendent and manage the purchasing of bulk materials and equipment.  DeReuil will assist clients in the design and planning of golf courses, working with architects, engineers and regulatory agencies on their behalf.  In addition, he will oversee construction projects for Honours Golf Company and its clients to guarantee timely, high quality, cost-conscious construction practices.

DeReuil began his career with Honours Golf in 1998 at Kelly Plantation Golf Club, and over the past 10 years has played a major role in the development and renovations of several of Honours Golf’s properties and managed facilities. He has most recently served as regional agronomist for the company’s Gulf Coast properties, as well as director of agronomy for Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin, Florida. 

DeReuil started his career at Jamal and Associates as project geologist and soils scientist. Later he served on staff at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia and served as superintendent at Crooked Creek Golf Club, where he oversaw the construction, grow-in and turf care operations in Alpharetta, Georgia. He then joined Kelly Plantation Golf Club where he managed the construction oversight, turf grow-in, maturation and turf care operation and was instrumental in Kelly Plantation receiving numerous awards and accolades.

DeReuil earned a bachelor of science in geology from University of Florida and a bachelor of science in agronomy from Michigan State University. He is a certified member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
