Kevin Churchill Named Golf Course Superintendent at Kelly Plantation Golf Club

September 24, 2009 – Birmingham, AL – Honours Golf Company has announced that Kevin Churchill is named  golf course superintendent at Kelly Plantation Golf Club located in Destin, Florida.   Honours Golf has managed the semi-private golf club, which features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Fred Couples and Gene Bates, since 1998.

“Since joining the Honours team in 2006, Kevin Churchill has developed strong leadership and agronomic skills and has become a valuable asset to our company,” said Bob Barrett, chief executive officer of the company.  “We are confident Kevin will sustain the high maintenance standards we have in place at Kelly Plantation, while adding his own personal touches to enhance our players’ experiences.”

Churchill has served as assistant golf course superintendent at Kelly Plantation since 2006.  He will replace Jim DeReuil who has been named director of agronomy for the Honours Golf corporate office.

Prior to joining the staff at Kelly Plantation, Churchill served as an assistant superintendent at the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club’s Cypress Course in Wellington, Florida.  Prior to that, he served as an assistant superintendent in training at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.  Churchill has an associate of science degree in golf course operations from Lake City Community College in Lake City, Florida and an applied technology diploma in golf course equipment technology.  He is a certified member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and past recipient of the Allan MacCurrach Award from the North Florida Superintendent’s Association.

Kelly Plantation Golf Club is situated in an upscale residential development located in Destin, Florida.  This semi-private club offers one of the most visually impressive and environmentally sensitive golf courses in northwest Florida.   Designers Fred Couples and Gene Bates fashioned an impressive championship golf course on the former site of a turpentine plantation owned by Mattie and Coleman Kelly.   The golf course boasts over 7,000 yards of large contoured greens, wide manicured fairways, strategically placed hazards and picturesque views of the Choctawhatchee Bay.  Since its inception, Kelly Plantation has consistently received a 4.5 star rating from Golf Digest and is named to “America’s Top Golf Courses” by Zagat.
