Golfweek Recognizes Honours Golf Properties

March 17, 2011 – Birmingham, AL - Golfweek magazine recently released its annual listing of “Best Courses You Can Play” naming two Honours Golf managed properties in the top three State-By-State Public Access Courses in Alabama.  FarmLinks Golf Club at Pursell Farms and Limestone Springs Golf Club and were rated No. 1 and No. 3 respectively.  Golfweek released the ratings on March 11, 2011.

This is the 15th year Golfweek has released its ratings of America’s “Best” courses. Votes are placed by an international panel of 675 raters.  These expert raters grade courses on criteria such as routing, shaping, natural setting and overall land plan, greens and surrounding contours, variety and memorability of par-3s, par-4s and par-5s, course conditioning, landscape and tree management and “walk in the park” test.  The “walk in the park test” according to Golfweek is “the overall feel and the collective sensory experience of a round.”

“It’s an honor to have FarmLinks and Limestone Springs recognized by GolfWeek’s expert panel,” said Bob Barrett, CEO of Honours Golf. “Both courses have their own unique layout and consistently offer superior course conditioning and excellent customer service.  We are thrilled to see them both recognized as the top golf courses in the state.”

Located southeast of Birmingham in Sylacauga, Alabama, FarmLinks Golf Club at Pursell Farms is currently rated as the “No. 1 Public Access Golf Course in Alabama” by GolfWeek.  FarmLinks is touted as the world’s first research and demonstration golf course, created by the Pursell family to test products, conduct research and educate golf course superintendents.  This 18-hole golf course offers a diverse layout, with dramatic elevation changes and striking views of the mountains and lakes on Pursell Farms.  Designed by Hurdzan-Fry, this championship course stretches 7,444 yards from the back tees, with multiple tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.  In addition to a first-class golf experience, FarmLinks also offers luxurious on-site lodging, five-stand clay shooting, guided hunting expeditions, and fishing – all located on Pursell Farms.

Limestone Springs Golf Club, which is located 35 minutes north of downtown Birmingham, is rated No. 3 in the state by Golfweek.   Limestone Springs Golf Club features a 7,000 yard,  18-hole golf course designed by golf course architect and former U.S. Open winner Jerry Pate.   Nestled throughout 225 acres of the Appalachian Mountains, this championship golf course offers strategically located bunkers, numerous lakes and scenic waterfalls and some of the most dramatic elevations and picturesque views in the state.  In addition to an award-winning golf course, Limestone Springs offers a first-rate golf practice facility, on-site accommodations,  mountain top swimming pool ,and lighted tennis courts - all located within the 800-acre resort style golf community of Limestone Springs.
